200 km in the New Balance 1080 v15: our no-filter long-term test

By L'équipe RunLab · 5/28/2026

Why a 200 km test?

At RunLab, we like to go beyond the first try-on in the shop. A shoe reveals itself over time: when the foam tires, when the upper relaxes, when those euphoric first kilometres give way to the reality of training. So we wore the New Balance 1080 v15 for two months across easy runs, long runs and a bit of moderate pace. Here's what we took away.

The ride, kilometre after kilometre

From the very first strides, you get what made the 1080 line famous: a soft, cushioned ride that's brilliant at soaking up impact on the road. The FuelCell foam stays lively without being twitchy, which makes it a great partner for relaxed outings.

The fit is wide and welcoming, ideal if you're starting out or simply want comfort above all. The mesh upper breathes well and holds the foot without squeezing.

Durability after 200 km

This is often where shoes disappoint. Good news:

  • The outsole shows very gradual wear, normal for the mileage.
  • The cushioning keeps much of its bounce, with a slight, expected pack-down.
  • The upper stays flawless, with no tears or stress points.

Who it's for, and its limits

The 1080 v15 shines for beginners and recreational runners wanting comfort on their easy and long runs. That said, it isn't built for pure speed or sharp intervals. If you want a snappier road profile, take a look at the Saucony Triumph 23 or the Asics Gel-Nimbus 28. For something more versatile and lighter, the New Balance 880 v15 or the Brooks Ghost 18 are worth a try.

Our verdict

A superb comfort cruiser, durable and reassuring for clocking up kilometres without beating up your legs. A safe bet for building your volume.
